SUS303, 45# steel, and 40Cr are all commonly used metal materials in motion and transmission components, but they differ significantly in corrosion resistance, strength, hardness, machinability, and cost. The right material should be selected based on the application environment, load requirements, machining needs, and budget.

SUS303 stainless steel is a free-machining stainless steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance and good machinability. It is well suited for applications that require protection against moisture, mild chemicals, or humid environments. SUS303 is often chosen for components used in food equipment, medical devices, automation systems, and general industrial environments where rust resistance is important. However, compared with carbon steel and alloy steel, SUS303 generally has lower strength and wear resistance, so it may not be the best choice for high-load or high-wear applications.

45# steel is a medium-carbon steel widely used in mechanical parts because of its balanced cost, strength, and machinability. It offers good overall mechanical performance and is suitable for general structural and transmission components. After appropriate heat treatment, 45# steel can achieve improved hardness and strength, making it a practical choice for shafts, pins, sleeves, and other standard machine parts. 40Cr is a chromium alloy steel with higher strength, toughness, and hardenability than 45# steel. It is commonly used in components that require better wear resistance, higher load capacity, and improved fatigue performance. After quenching and tempering, 40Cr can provide strong and stable mechanical properties, making it suitable for demanding applications such as transmission shafts, gears, lead screw components, couplings, and heavily loaded machine parts. Like 45# steel, 40Cr does not provide inherent corrosion resistance comparable to stainless steel, so surface protection may still be needed depending on the environment.

45# steel is suitable for standard mechanical applications that require a cost-effective balance of strength and machinability.
